My philosophy on providing students with Occupational therapy services involves many avenues. It needs to be a well rounded approach that incorporates the whole child. Individual skills can not be learned and generalized into real life situations unless all the child’s basic needs are taken care of first.
It is a whole team approach for a student’s individual needs. Focus and communication among team members are vital to a student’s progress in school and life successes.
The student has to own their individual goals and be motivated to want to learn. It is a therapist’s responsibility to find each individuals “zone of development” and build upon those skills one building block at a time.
Time is not of the essence but working on skills from simple to complex to gain that optimal level of independence.
